Typefitter, by Typefi, is an intelligent typography plug-in for Adobe InDesign that simplifies the task of setting beautifully-spaced type. Typefitter enables you to define type­setting rules, then apply them easily via Type­fitter’s powerful Copy­fit slider. Typefitter can also quickly search your content to find common typo­graphic issues and recom­mend fixes for them.

Typefitter is an intuitive plug-in for Adobe InDesign that adds a user-friendly panel to your workspace. Typefitter’s features make it easy for anyone—beginners to experts—to deliver beautiful typography.

Typefitter finds common typographic issues in your document and then recommends fixes for the issues. With Typefitter, you can easily manage overset text, unsightly short lines at the ends of paragraphs, white space rivers, paragraphs with widowed and orphaned lines, and even widowed and orphaned table rows, numbered list items, tables of content entries, and index terms with ease.

Typefitter’s copy fitting, using either the Copyfit slider or automated rules in a Typefitter Profile, works its ‘magic’ using overrides (local formatting). So, you are safe to send Typefit documents to your colleagues or a print service provider without worry.

But, Typefitter’s highlighter effects for tightened or loosened text or white space rivers require Typefitter. That is, you (or they) must have Typefitter to see those visual effects. But, again, not having Typefitter won’t break or undo your copy fitting.

You can install and activate Typefitter on up to two computers (Windows or macOS) used exclusively by the same person.

For example, if you have a computer only you work on in your office, and your own computer at home, you can install and activate Typefitter on both computers. If you get a new computer at home and you want to install and activate Typefitter on it, you'll need to deactivate Typefitter from your old computer.

If you can’t access your old computer (for example, it was lost, damaged, or stolen), don’t worry. We can help. Just provide us with the email you used to subscribe or any other identifying information (order number or serial number) and we'll deactivate your licence for your old computer for you.

  • If your Mac has an Apple processor and you are using InDesign 16.3 or later, use the macOS (ARM) installer for the fastest performance.
  • If your Mac has an Intel processor or you are using InDesign 16.2 or earlier, use the macOS (Intel) installer.

Typefitter has a free 6 week trial so you can really get to know Typefitter and decide whether it’s useful before purchasing a subscription!

If you found Typefitter useful during your free 6 week trial, you will need to purchase a subscription from our website and then activate Typefitter by selecting Typefi → Activate Typefi Plugin from InDesign’s Help menu.

First, close Adobe InDesign. Then follow the steps below for your platform:

Windows

  1. Click the Search icon in the Windows taskbar, and type “Apps and Features”.
  2. Select Typefi Typefitter, and click Uninstall.

macOS

  1. In Finder, go to Applications → Adobe InDesign → Plug-ins → Typefi.
  2. Drag the Typefitter 5 folder to the Trash.

If you are experiencing an issue installing or using Typefitter, to help us to more accurately understand the problem and resolve it for you, please provide as much of the following as possible when you reach out:

  1. A full description of what you were doing, what happened, and what you thought should have happened instead. Please mention any error messages you encountered.
  2. Your operating system version (for example, “macOS Monterey version 12.4”), InDesign app version (for example, “InDesign 2022, version 17.2.105”), and details on any third-party InDesign plug-ins you’re using. The secret Component Information dialog has this information; hold down the Command or Ctrl key while selecting About InDesign from the InDesign menu (macOS) or Help menu (Windows).

If you need to print a copy of your original order invoice, want to update your account details and payment methods, or you’ve received an email notification about an upcoming subscription billing and you want to cancel your subscription, follow these steps:

  1. Go to https://typefi.com/activate.
  2. Click Manage Subscription.
  3. Enter the email address you used when you originally subscribed and click Continue.
  4. Check your email inbox for a magic link, which you can use to get into your FastSpring account.

Activation Issues

Activate Typefitter by selecting Typefi → Activate Typefi Plugin from InDesign’s Help menu. Be sure to enter the License ID & Password exactly as they were sent to you. If this fails, take a screenshot of the Typefitter License window and send it to us.
